Democratic Underground honors "Help Mom" author

The brains trust over at Democratic Underground have honored Katharine DeBrecht, the author of Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed, with inclusion on their "Top 10 Conservative Idiots" list.

Those of us here at World Ahead are not sure if this really is a Top 10 list per se--since President Bush makes the list 3 times and one listing lumps Bill O'Reilly together with Condi Rice--but given the fuzzy math these liberals are being taught in public schools we thought it best just to politely accept the honor for our author.

View the Top 10 list here.

P.S. Who leaked our next book cover to these guys?

I think you need to with-draw your book. Remember, a Nation with one Political Party and one that is right winged is a Facist State.

A review on Amazon.com says that the message of this book is that "true freedom means being left alone."

I think we have all seen what "being left alone" has accomplished in New Orleans.

I only pray that this hateful ideology of greed and "free markets" [read: government subsidied multinational corporations which drive out small businesses and drive up prices while evading even the most modest of tax laws] will ultimately self-destruct, as any inhumane and immoral system eventually must. Shame on you for publishing a book which celebrates something so anti-Christian and anti-human. (What was that about camels and the eye of a needle, again?)

Hello, Anonymous II,

Boy, talk about sticking your head in the sand! If you hate the free market so much, move to Germany -- they've got tax brackets over 50% and restrictive labor laws. Of course, because of those "humane" and "moral" policies, Germany does have 11% unemployment and stagnant GDP growth of around 1%.

It's not just Germany, my nameless friend. The story's roughly the same in other over-taxed and/or over-regulated economies like France, Italy, and Japan. In fact, unemployment in for the entire EU (i.e. welfare state central) averages around 9%.

Compare that to the US, where our unemployment rate (pre-Katrina) was just under 5% and our GDP growth for the past couple of years has been around 4%.

As a Christian, I don't think there's anything holy in destroying jobs with an over-taxing, over-regulating centralized economy.

In fact -- contrary to your assumption about the desireability of economic centralization being made manifest by the flooding of about New Orleans -- I can't imagine how a paralyzed economy like the EU's could cope with a natural disaster on this scale, never mind a terrorist attack on the scale of 9/11. Our free market is not only moral, it gives us the strength to address the challenges that man and nature may bring.

Eric, why would children even concern themselves with the big load of "elephant crap" you just wrote?

Gee why don't you write a book called "Hi I'm Rush and I suck down Narcotics?"

Maybe he'll endorse THAT too!

I just love the way liberals don't let facts get in the way of a good rant. Why debate the immorality and inefficiency of a centralized economy when you can make anonymous posts about elephant droppings? ;)

Of course, that most recent poster is making the same mistake about "Liberals Under My Bed" that left-wing blogger Andrew Sullivan recently did. Those images of Congressman Barney Frank in the chaps were created by the Photoshop wizards over at Democratic Underground -- so if you're saying that whoever dreamt up that image is "sick" and in need of "professional help," I have to agree with you.

Click here to read the full story about how Andrew Sullivan wound up with egg on his face over the Barney Frank chaps.

And click here to see one of the actual from "Liberals Under My Bed."
